The budget airline has introduced a new London–Paris connection from Stansted

The twice-weekly service links London Stansted Airport with Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport and is expected to attract both business and leisure travellers between the two European capitals.

The seasonal service will initially operate on Thursdays and Sundays throughout March before switching to Mondays and Fridays during the summer schedule.

The addition brings the number of easyJet routes from Stansted to seven, as the airline continues expanding its European network. The carrier also runs services from other London hubs including London Gatwick Airport and London Luton Airport.

Kevin Doyle, easyJet's UK country manager, said: “We are really pleased to be celebrating our new route to Paris which is proving to be popular with business and leisure travellers alike.”

The service is expected to strengthen links between London and Paris, two of Europe’s most visited cities, while giving passengers additional choice when travelling between the capitals.

Meanwhile, Heathrow Airport has renewed calls for a third runway after losing its position as Europe’s busiest hub to Istanbul Airport.

Istanbul handled 6.9 million passengers in January compared with Heathrow’s 6.5 million, according to airport figures. Heathrow said it is now operating at full capacity and warned that a lack of expansion could limit route choice and competition.

Although the UK government has backed plans for a third runway, the £49bn project still faces planning and legal hurdles and is unlikely to open before the mid-2030s.

This month’s passenger figures are expected to be affected by the outbreak of war in the Middle East, with Heathrow CEO Thomas Woldbye saying the airport is focused on supporting passengers during the ongoing crisis.

Woldbye said in a statement.: “We continue to monitor the situation closely and stand ready to minimise the operational impact and assist our airline partners as they navigate this challenging operational environment."
