Royal watchers say the Princess of Wales has relied heavily on her mother, Carole Middleton, particularly during a difficult period that included her cancer diagnosis and treatment, while continuing to prioritise a structured and nurturing upbringing for her children.
According to royal expert Jennie Bond, the close relationship between the princess and her mother has long been a source of stability for the family.
Speaking to the The Mirror, Bond said the pair share not only a mother-daughter bond but also a strong friendship that has remained constant as Kate’s royal responsibilities have grown.
Bond said Carole became a “tower of strength” for the family during Princess Kate’s treatment, helping to provide both emotional and practical support.
While the princess focused on her recovery, Carole reportedly helped keep the household running and supported her daughter’s husband, William, Prince of Wales.
She was also said to have played a hands-on role caring for the couple’s children — Prince George of Wales, Princess Charlotte of Wales and Prince Louis of Wales — often helping with school runs and activities while their mother underwent treatment.
The Middleton family home in Bucklebury, Berkshire has long served as a retreat for the Wales family. During the princess’s treatment, the countryside property reportedly provided a quieter environment where she could step away from public attention and focus on her health.
Despite the additional support, Bond noted that Princess Kate remains closely involved in how her children are raised.
She said the princess has “very firm ideas about how young minds should be nurtured,” meaning even supportive grandparents respect the parenting rules she has set for George, Charlotte and Louis.
Royal commentators say the strong support network created by Carole and her husband, Michael Middleton, has helped the princess balance recovery, royal duties and family life while keeping her children’s upbringing a clear priority.
